Journal: Stories Behind My Star-studded Selfies

What’s fashion week without fashion crème de la crème? Designers, supermodels, editors, and successful bloggers fill in the narrow gap of concrete jungle to reaffirm their standing as a powerful fashion voice while observing the most talked-about who-wear-what of the season. Before the models take over the runway and after the designers hail their bow, there is always a space to socialize, and of course, snap some envy-worthy selfies. Here are the behind-the-lens stories:

1. Anna Wintour

Don’t call yourself a fashionista, or even fashion wannabe, if you don’t know this sharp bobbed lady-boss who has been ruling the fashion industry for decades and hosting the MET Gala, which essentially is the hottest party on the planet. Taking a selfie with her can be one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish. How could not? PR girls always pushed us away whenever we are less than one meter radius from her. After seeing her more than five times, I finally scored my first selfie with her.

2. Anna Dello Russo

It was two days before the end of the fashion week. I had done thirty five shows in the past five days and been planning to step out of the camera blitz after Jean Paul Gaultier’s. On my way out, I saw paparazzi trying to get a hold of a very familiar face; a face that I sure know, but completely forgot until an eastern European voice screamed out “Anna”! Dang, Anna Dello Russo.

3. Emily Ratajkowski

A couple steps away from Dello Russo at the corner of the 34th street and Eighth, I found another pool of paparazzi and an unbelievably chic young lady, who walked the paved path like nobody’s business. Gosh, that’s Em! After seeing Dello Russo and Ratajkowski, I knew I did not want to miss Vera Wang. I switched direction and went under the tent following the two. Em was very friendly, upon taking some front-row selfies, she said, “Very nice to meet you.” Aw, what a social sweetheart! Nice to meet you too gorgeous.

4. Tommy Hilfiger

Who didn’t know this New York’s fashion mogul? I met him at Greg Polisseni’s show, which was hosted by his brother, Andy Hilfiger. I said ‘hi’ and congratulated him on his newest collaboration with Gigi Hadid. I had to pinch myself a couple times and gather enough courage to approach him before I launch my miraculous selfie-request pitch.

5. Paris Hilton

I saw her at Michael Costello on Thursday, September 8. She came seconds before the first look hit the runway and left the moment the lights went off. On Monday, September 12, I was surprised to have seen her again at Jeremy Scott — this time round she power-numbered her appearance by bringing her sister, Nicky Hilton. I breezed through a group of fencing paparazzi, condensed my thirty-second selfie-request pitch to five, and clicked the circular white button on my iPhone.

6. Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl

I have met Johannes a couple of times, but this was the first time I saw his wife, Olivia, in-person (well, I met her everyday on Instagram). Her make-up was very natural, she looked just as gorgeous as her Instagram pictures. After Jonathan Simkhai’s show was over, I immediately sent the pictures to my mother like I did at the end of every other show. Upon seeing my pictures, she called me at 4 a.m Indonesia time and I was so worried, I thought she had found out that I had been skipping class for the fashion week, but she turned out saying: “OMG that guy in white was so hot, you should learn how to pose, and dress, like him,” with an aggressive tone on the “dress” part.

7. Kylie Jenner

I was walking around and talking to some other bloggers, before everyone’s attention was brought to the center front. The paparazzi were unusually brutal this time round. I saw a head wrapped in a white bandana before a blogger alerted me, “Ow, it’s Kylie.” Next to her was her best friend, Jordyn Woods.

8. Cameron Dallas

He sneaked in to the show when everyone’s eyes are glued to the Hilton sisters. He walked undisturbed in a quiet, steady pace with the guidance from a PR girl, before Filbert Nickolas turned around and got him spotted.

9. Alexa Chung

It was my second show of the week and I was very excited to unveil who I would meet on my second day. While opening up a conversation with a fashionista whose name I forgot, I asked if she knew any celebrity in attendance at Noon by Noor. She said, “I don’t know, but I know Alexa Chung is hosting the show.” I immediately forgot about my desire of going back to bed after 5.30 am hair-and-make-up situation — Alexander Skarsgård’s girlfriend is in the house!

10. Linda Fargo

If you have been to Bergdorf Goodman, chances are, you know about tons of people posing for pictures in front of the window display, and Linda Fargo is the brain behind those mannequins wearing McQueen. The selfie was taken at the opening of Bergdorf’s new main floor, which was hosted by Miss Fargo herself. The Croque Madame was a to-die-for, by the way.
